Service Details

Obtaining a permit or certificate of authorization in Quebec can quickly become complex, energy-draining, and time-consuming. By taking care of all these tasks for you, Permis Réno offers you the opportunity to streamline these processes efficiently with just a few clicks. Whether you are a renovation business or an individual, this service is designed to keep you focused on what truly matters to you: completing drawings or renovation work. SERVICE DETAILS

Permis Réno handles requests for all types of certificates of authorization (signage, demolition, renovation, occupancy, etc.), which are required to undertake residential and/or commercial renovation work in Quebec, and to legally operate an activity following these works. From preparing application forms to the final decision by the urban planning department handling the file, the service includes, on your behalf, the following necessary steps:

  • Prepare the file and submit the application.
  • Make any necessary modifications/updates to the file at any time.
  • Maintain close follow-up with the urban planning department.
  • Share with you the regulations and recommendations from the municipality regarding the project.
  • Communicate with the municipality about your choices and decisions.
  • Prepare the application for a variance and/or compile the file with updated documents.
  • Handle the steps with the Advisory Committee on Urban Planning (CCU).
  • Process the payment.
  • Provide you with the PDF and paper versions of the permit, as well as any other documents provided by the urban planning service handling the file.

COMMUNICATION METHODS

All exchanges (documents and information) are conducted via email, postal mail, or phone call, according to your preference.
No physical meetings or travel on your part will be required during the process (except for very specific cases).
You will be kept informed in real-time about the progress of your request with Permis Réno and your file with the municipality.
At the end of the permit application process, if approved by the municipal inspector, the PDF version of the "ordered" permit, as well as all legal documents provided by the municipality, will be emailed to you, marking the end of this contract. Paper versions will also be mailed to the address provided in the Delivery section when opening the account. Please allow up to 7 business days for receipt of the paper versions.

DOCUMENTS TO BE PROVIDED BY THE APPLICANT

During the permit application process, in addition to the data already provided when submitting the request, Permis Réno may ask you to send additional documents or information upon the municipality's request. Some examples include:

  • Certificate of location.
  • Letter of authorization for the work.
  • Site or building plans.
  • Details on the total cost of the project.

PRICE AND ADDITIONAL FEES

Generally, the decision to issue or not issue a certificate of authorization for a renovation project in Quebec is strictly at the discretion of the municipal urban planning department. That said, the price includes only the aforementioned service (process, advice, and support) and not a service for the production, issuance, or sale of permits.
This price does not include the dossier analysis fees required by municipalities. You must provide this amount as soon as the city’s invoice is available. Depending on the municipality, this invoice may be available at the beginning or end of the process. Additionally, amounts vary from one municipality to another.
If the municipality requests a review of your project in whole or in part, Permis Réno will assist you in this step. As long as the municipality does not require any additional fees or permits to process the revised request/project, Permis Réno will not charge any additional fees for resubmitting and following up on your file.
If, shortly after submitting your request, you decide to modify your project in whole or in part: No additional fees will be charged by Permis Réno for updating your file already in processing with the municipality, provided that your changes do not involve any additional requirements from the municipality, such as extra fees or permits.
If the municipality requires additional fees, regardless of the amount, Permis Réno will charge an additional fee of $30 CAD.
If the city requires at least one other type of permit, you must submit a new request to Permis Réno for each type of permit and pay the associated fees.

REFUND AND CANCELLATION POLICY FOR FIXED-PRICE SERVICES

  • Fixed-price services are those whose prices are already defined on our Services page. They are payable in a single payment.
    After payment comes the step: Preparation of the file. During this stage, Permis Réno reviews the file and the municipality’s permit application procedures to compile the file. Once the file is prepared, Permis Réno will proceed to the: Filing of the file. 93% of the paid amount is refundable only before this last step; meaning, as long as you have not received confirmation that your file has indeed been filed with the municipality, your money is refundable at 93%.
    Once Permis Réno confirms that your file has been filed with the municipality, no refunds are possible.
    The same principle applies if you decide to cancel your request or project: If you notify us before receiving confirmation, 93% is refundable. If you notify us after, no refund is possible.
    No payments already made are transferable or interchangeable to another applicant or address.

REFUND AND CANCELLATION POLICY FOR UNDEFINED-PRICE SERVICES

Undefined-price services are those whose prices are not defined on our Services page. A quote request must be made from the Quotes page to know the price. They are payable in two parts: 50% at the beginning and 50% once you receive confirmation that your file has indeed been filed with the municipality.
Before confirmation of your file's filing by Permis Réno, you can cancel your request at any time. Permis Réno will refund 93% of the amount already paid. After confirmation of your file's filing by Permis Réno, no refund is possible, even in case of cancellation.
No payments already made are transferable or interchangeable to another applicant or address.

SERVICE DURATION

The service duration directly depends on the minimum time required by the municipality to analyze your permit request. Depending on the project type, permit type, the specifics of the request, and even the availability of municipal inspectors, delays vary from one municipality to another and may take several weeks.
